Random Monday

In CategoryRandom Monday

• Due to a virtual cacophony, practically, of people wondering if I’m still out there, wherein cacophony equals two, I decided I should make an appearance and see if any words come out. I have been having a bit of writer’s block, wherein block equals overwhelmed by life.

• What is overwhelming, you ask? (or maybe you don’t, whatevs) Just everything. My mind is a never-ending whirl of to-do lists alternating with feelings of failure. I don’t know where the summer went. Did I do art every week with the kids? No. Did I teach myself to sew? No. Did I do scrapbooking, or take a photoshop class or learn to make tortillas? No, No, and No. I want Fall to feel like a clean slate, but it mostly feels like continuing to barely keep afloat on all my regular duties but adding in 6 hours of school every day. Plus also we are starting Latin this year and I am muy afraid.

• Speaking of school, we started today, bright and early at 8:30 am. Big has been doing the same 8 math problems for 2 hours, and he also has managed to have three, count ’em THREEEEEE, full on crying melt-downs already because the Meanest Mom in the West insinuated that he needed to pull his head out of his butt and get with it try a wee bit harder to focus. I have a new plan for him this year, mostly being that he needs to learn that procrastinating and complaining doesn’t get the work done; if he has to do school until 8pm every night to figure that out, then so be it. I see many Growth Opportunities in his future. Poor guy. Unrelated: I am considering taking up daytime drinking (not really) (but maybe).

• I did manage to shop for an early Christmas present and scored these super awesome salt & pepper shakers for my sister –

If you don’t think those are the Best Thing Ever, well, I pity you.

• Happy Monday, y’all! Happy Back to School! Happy, Happy, Happy!

What you said about summer not being what was hoped for, barely surviving, then throwing hours of school on top….yeah, you’re not alone. I don’t know if that makes you feel any better, but you are definitely not alone.

Yup, not alone. And I WAS wondering where you were, but felt a bit stalker-ish when I went to write an email. 🙂 You bring humour and joy and empathy into everyday life (for me, anyway). I so feel you on the overwhelming feelings. We’ve started school again as well and I fear meltdowns. We’ll see how the kids hold up. 😉
Oh and…. BEST SISTER EVER! Great shakers.

I too feel like summer whizzed by while I am still tackling my “things I must get accomplished this summer.” But yes, joyfully, I do not need to add school into the mix for the first time in 7 years. I am sighing huge breaths of relief.

Glad you are back! I did wonder if all was okay in your world. Back to school…ahhhhh & AAAAAAAAAH, all at the same time. (:

You poor thing. I have had days like that. Child #4 havng several melt downs after I asked her to answer 5+0. She still has the fits, but at least it isn’t so frequent and she isn’t flying under the table. So, yes he’ll grow out of it. Probably by the time he graduates. Glad I could make you feel better. lol

Definitely not alone in the (non)anticipation of starting up a new homeschool year… the thought of sitting down and ‘doing’ another year of multiplication makes me want to stick forks in my eyes. Although I *know* I’m lucky to be able to homeschool and watch them grow up (while I grow old- but that’s another depressing road I don’t want to go down). Yeah, I think I need to maybe try ‘a wee bit harder’ in the attitude dept. 🙂

Ughhh I hate days like that. Three problems. Ugh.

  9. Karen Says:

I hate when I feel like I haven’t accomplished the things I want to. Which is pretty much all the time. Thankfully Keilee does enough for both of us!!! Math- ugh and ugh. The one thing Kei doesn’t love.

You know, in the back of my mind I was wondering, “Isn’t it time for Random Monday yet? This sure is a long week.” So, you see, I did miss you, I just have no concept of time, as today being Wednesday can confirm.

“muy afraid”? Latin sounds a lot like Spanish!

Those shakers are… astounding. One day, I think your sister will gift you with a whole chicken made out of the parts you have given her.

OK, just to make you feel totes inadequate, but my Miss 9 gets up and does her math straight away … even if I aint out of bed. She just likes to get it out of the way. Her older sister tries to sneakily avoid it though. My little darling also just started Latin a couple of weeks back and she is just loving it. In full disclosure I should mention that both of these subjects are the only ones taught by CD and/or DVD, so it is not my doing. Crap now I feel inadequate!
