Because you might CATCH ON FIRE

Banana Boat Sun Care is recalling some of it’s products due to a potential risk of product igniting on the skin if contact is made with a source of ignition before the product is completely dry.

Just FYI. Your sunscreen might try to INCINERATE YOU.

Sting Free! Does anyone besides me think that’s funny?

    I am pretty? Thank you!
I heard this on the news today on the LONG drive back from Virginia. Not good. I love the spray lotions too.

    It’s a new, non-stinging kind of fire.

I tell you, I’ve become SO suspicious of all the chemical-laden products we use every day. There is something about slathering on chemicals (sunscreen) and baking them into our skin in the sun that just seems, well, wrong.

And yet every year when my dermatologist asks me if I’m using sunscreen, I lie and tell her I do. The one time I did tell her I don’t, she looked at me like I had three heads. Lying is easier in this case, I decided.

Dawn—I am so in agreement with you: I am willing to bet that we will someday get some study that tells us how bad the chemicals in sunscreen are for us, and especially kids. I always try to buy less-chemically ones (going without isn’t an option for my whitey-white skinned kids) but zinc oxide goes on like thick white paste and my tweens will have none of that. Ugh.

My son is allergic to sunscreen and he gets a huge rash that looks like those bumps you get when you are slapped. :( It has to be hypoallergenic. Lots of bad stuff in those sunscreens.

I just want to add a note. My sister has had skin cancer at the age of 33. On her face. She lives in Washington where the sun isnt even af its strongest, Sun damage is real. My dad has had several pre cancerous spots removed from his body. He never wore sunscreen. Please, please don’t discount the benefits of sunscreen.

Not to worry, the bottle says it’s inflammable.

    I like Dawn’s comment.

I’ve read that skin cancer also correlates with eating certain fats (trans, polyunsaturated). Maybe the rising incidence is due to a combination.

  9. Dawn Says:

I should add that I DO in fact wear sunscreen sometimes – for instance full days in the sun. However, for day to day use, we just wear hats and clothing to cover and avoid the heat of the day to minimize sunscreen use for the reasons I mentioned.

I wasn’t advocating NOT using it, just that I’m super suspicious that doing so is probably harming us in a different way. All things in moderation is my motto. :)
