17May
On Saturday, we spent ALL DAY in Yellowstone. (yes! more nature blathering! cowboy up, people, I’m enthusiastic!)
I have a sunburn.
And I managed to give a speech about Lodge Pole Pine to some total strangers, because apparently I will homeschool anyone within earshot.
And then we saw this -
Which has to be one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in nature.
And then we saw this -
Grizzly Bear.
Grizzly.
Bear.
People.
About 80 yards away.
He was amazing. And gigantic. And glorious.
Best day ever.

There were about 100 other tourists even closer than we were. We don’t have to outrun the bear, we only have to outrun the other guy, right? And the car was right behind us.
Still. Some of these people are ca-razy. We saw a mama and baby black bear, RIGHT on the side of the road. People we getting out of their cars and following the baby! I’m all like, “people! Haven’t you seen the educational videos? Back away from the baby bear!” One guy was clapping and whistling to get a bear’s attention. At that point, it was time to go.
The buffalo actually hurt more people than the bears. People think they are big, docile cows. And then they get stomped.

That pool is gorgeous!! I would love to see it. I am with Melanie. You are too close to the bear. I would be wetting my pants.

And then they get stomped. hahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!!!
I’m so in love with the pictures and, ahem, education that is totally happening! I’ve been nonchalantly mentioning to my husband that we should really visit Yellowstone and the Tetons. These “random” comments will soon be followed by also coincidental pictures, or youtube videos until he suggest we go, probably this fall since summer tends to be crowded. I will update the progress of this plan as it succeeds.

Beautiful! The lake. The bear too . . I guess. We have tons of little black bears around here that don’t scare me. They should, right? But they don’t. Because they’re “little” black bears. When you put “grizzly” in front of something . . . that’s freaking scary.
