Travel Update

For the three people out there who are filled with burning curiosity about how our travels are going thus far (I don’t know… does three sound like an exaggeration? Probably it’s more like one and a half), here’s an update:

• I really thought we weren’t going to make it out of the house. It was an unbelievable amount of work to pare down what we are bringing with us AND what we will be coming home to. We initially planned on renting a 10×10 storage space for our stuff, but toward the end, I ran out of decision-making energy and we had to get another unit for the “we have to be out in two days! chuck it in a box and it can be Future Deb’s problem!” stuff. (Future Deb better eat her Wheaties, that’s all I can say about that.)

Plus, the kids got colds right in the middle of the whole thing, which added to the awesome. Grouchy Mom has taken every available opportunity to say things like, “maybe now you’ll listen to me when I tell you to stop touching everything in WalMart then sticking your finger up your nose.” The nose! Gah!

But we made it. There was about 24 hours where Jim thought my computer wasn’t going to fit and I filled the time plotting his demise. No computer! Why would he even SAY that to me? It’s like it was his first day here or something.

Gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

• We are now staying in a VRBO in Boulder, Colorado for the next couple of weeks while Jim goes to some computer-geek-training thingamajig. The plan is to be in Oregon by Thanksgiving.

Oregon! At Thanksgiving!

• I’m going to meet my sister tomorrow to tell her about this crazypants idea (yep. no one in my family knows about this yet. So that should be…interesting). Wish me luck.

The adventure has begun!!! I am so excited for you. What is a VBRO?

I am a little surprised you haven’t told your family yet. Sounds a lot like something I would do. When we moved to NY, I didn’t tell my father until we had been there a week. HA!

I hope that your travels will bring you to Texas. Find me when you get here.

Ooooo, I LOVE VRBO (marcie—it’s a site where you can find amazing rental deals for vacations/longer stays—we use it so that our family of 5 doesn’t have to cram in a tiny hotel room).

And YAY for you! I keep meaning to write to say congrats and godspeed and bon voyage! And, whoa! You haven’t told your family?!? Could you videotape their reactions? That could be Youtube gold!

And, Massachusetts here! It’s a LONG drive from Oregon, but you’d better yell if you get out this way!

I must be the half-a-person since I only half care. I find all your travel talk sooooo boring!

You know that I am kidding!!!

And I feel like I am in a time-warp with this post. Isn’t this a delayed publishing?

Your family doesn’t KNOW?!? That is so weird. You are ODD, Deb. An odd, homeschooling, traveling weirdo.

Wanna park your rv in our driveway in Illinois for a bit?

Oooh, Oregon! I’m from the NW (Idaho), hubby is from the Portland area. If you want any recommendations for things to do in Oregon, let me know! I don’t blame you for not telling your family. I LOVE my family, but sometimes I wait to tell them things until the decision is irreversable just so that I can cut them off and say “Well gee, that is a great point. Too bad it’s already a done deal. Oh well”
