Random Monday

• We do not celebrate Halloween in our house, but I still look forward to it every year because I can buy bags and bags of candy with impunity.

• I’ve been a little disappointed by the attitudes of the US hikers who were released from Iran last week. They seem rather ungracious. Aside from the fact that I personally think anyone who goes “hiking” on the Iran/Iraq border is a MORON, would it kill them to say Thank You to those who worked so hard to get them freed? (and no, I don’t think thanking Hugo Chavez is quite sufficient)

• I am up by FIVE games in our In-House Football Pool.

FIVE. Holla!

Jim’s whole problem is that he makes his picks emotionally. For example, he will NEVER pick against the Broncos. NEVER. Even though it is clear they will probably have a losing season. Also, he will NEVER pick the Raiders. NEVER. He hates the Raiders and has taught the kids to stomp their tiny feet when he cues, “what do we do to Raiders?”

I, on the other hand, make my picks based on how well I like the team outfits. Or whether the quarterback is in the tabloids and seems like a big jerk. Or how many players are convicted felons. One year I won by watching Regis and Kelly.

It’s very scientific.

However, the main thing is that I win. Sure, I hate football. But I shall continue to brag about it as long as I remain ahead.

• If there is anyone out there who gets the same guilty pleasure from watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey, I suggest reading Jay Mohr’s blog on Bravo.com. It is seriously hilarious. Seriously. I laugh out loud – literally! every time I read it.

• Happy Monday, y’all!

We don’t have a football pool but I think I could win using the same criteria as you! It also helps to have no loyalties when it comes to picking a team. And yes, the color of the uniform matters!

I’m not sure why I’m surprised, but happy, that you don’t celebrate Halloween. We don’t either but I’m totally with you on the candy thing. I just bought 2 gianormous bags today and hid them in my stamping room. I had to lock the cabinet though because the kids have discovered my secret and devoured my bag of Candy Corn in just under 3 days. Pigs.

I also find it completely idiotic that somebody would hike on the Iran/Iraq border. I can think of a hundred places that I would rather hike. It does make one wonder what the heck they were doing there.

You would totally think that we would do some type of football pool in our house. I suppose we don’t because I would be absolutely hammered by the one who knows all about those things.

    Real Housewives…never have seen them.

LOL, I can’t believe it! Another person who picks the winner based on uniform cuteness or other non relavent information. And I thought my Mom and I were the only ones 🙂

Picking a team because of the uniform makes perfect sense to me….beats reading stats. 🙂

Have they ever given an explanation as to why they just happened to be strolling along the border of an area known to be unfriendly to Americans? Seems a bit like tightrope walking a fence at a tiger cage in terms of ‘logical’ decisions. (“The tigers don’t like humans…that’s why we’re about to be eaten.”)

I’ve never bet on football, but all of a sudden I have hope I could be magically lucky with it!

    1. Jay Mohr is hilarious.
    2. I like football at the beginning of the season, and during playoffs. I hate whomever is playing my home team, and root for other teams based on their mascot or which team has the most players willing to speak publicly without referring to themselves in the 3rd person.

I agree with point #2. MORONS! As with so many news stories that involve 20-something hipsters, I wonder if they were motivated to stray across the border (or visit Iraq, in the first place) because they thought it would look “cool” on their Facebook pages?
